I was incredibly shy growing up. Family friends would ask me basic questions about school. I gave one-word answers. I’m pretty sure the only time I spoke properly was when I commentated on my own Fifa matches. Yeah… I was a cool kid.
I still live in my hometown. Harrogate was once voted the UK’s happiest place to live or — as my girlfriend likes to tease — “the poshest”. She’s got a point. We’re famous for bottled water and grass. Not the smelly, hippy sh*t. Literal grass.
I’m 6ft5. You might think that’s slightly taller than the average person but nothing crazy. And you’d be right. Still, I’ve still heard enough “How’s the weather up there?” gags to last a lifetime.

I used to play the trombone for Knaresborough Silver Band. This clip sums us up. Split notes galore. Fun times, though.
In 2012, I performed on-stage with Olly Murs and Gregory Porter to raise money for Children In Need. It’s the only time I’ve looked even remotely cool with my trombone.
Also in 2012, I carried the Olympic Torch! (I try not to mention it within the first 5 minutes of meeting someone new. It’s not easy haha!) TLDR: My PE teacher put me forward. I had no idea until I got an email from LOCOG saying I’d been chosen. I thought it was scam. I ignored it for weeks. I represented Sport England and carried the flame along York’s Bar Wall.

I keep a Wall of Love. It reminds me of the people who’ve commented on my writing. I love it.
I’ve kept a book review blog since 2015. I haven’t updated it in a while, but it lists some of the best books I’ve ever read.
I self-published a book about the Olympics experience. It’s embarrassing. The writing was terrible. But it raised a couple of hundred pounds for my school’s PE department and led to some cool opportunities (meeting my local MP, speaking in schools, doing a ‘book tour’ around supermarkets – one of my which offered me a job.) I’ll always believe in putting yourself out there. Crazy things can happen.

I volunteered with Samaritans for the three years. Being a listener is easily one of the most rewarding roles I’ve ever had. I can’t recommend them enough.
In 2018, I graduated from The University of East Anglia with a 1st in Economics. I’ve forgotten 90% of the stuff I learned. But I can now make a bangin’ omelette, so money well spent, right?
In 2015, I solo-travelled around South East Asia for ten weeks. Did I find myself? Nope. But I did meet some incredible people. I also puked a lot in Vietnam. The thing is, have you really been on a gap yarhhh if you haven’t *nearly* shat yourself?

I used to be the world’s worst dater. Therapy sorted me out. I recommend it to everyone.
My first graduate job was working as a prison officer. Why? No idea. I quit after 4 months. (I’m surprised I lasted that long.)
I then tried to build a cricket protein bar business. (Crickets as in the insects.) I imported raw cricket powder from Thailand and developed recipes in my mum’s kitchen. She hated it. The project went nowhere – a complete failure – but it did make me start my podcast.

I recently(ish) lost two dads in one year. I didn’t know my biological dad growing up, but my step-dad was incredible. Brain tumours and lung cancer ravaged him towards the end. I was heartbroken. But around the same time, I met my girlfriend. She’s one of the kindest, most generous people you’ll ever meet. So silver linings and all that.
I’ll tried all sorts to make money online. Dropshipping, day trading, domain-flipping – you name it. There are only two things that have worked: writing and making online courses.
I launched Entrepreneurs Can Party in March 2020. It hit number 10 in the UK Apple Podcast charts for entrepreneurship. I was buzzing for weeks! This led to a brief stint in podcast coaching.

I hired a virtual assistant to handle my podcast (editing, producing, etc). I worked with Lou from 2020 to 2022, and we’re still in touch to this day. In fact, me and my girlfriend have just been invited to her Vietnam wedding in Feb 2028! The internet be crazy.
These courses still make me money. But my SEO course with ZTM is the real winner. It’s the closest thing to passive income I’ll probably ever get.
I’ve sold digital products on Gumroad. It’s the easiest way to launch an ebook.
*I nearly forgot about Airbnb.* This is a good money-spinner too. I’ve rented out my place when I’ve gone travelling, like when I was in Japan for two weeks.
I commentate on football matches (for real). I volunteer at my local team. I’m still pretty sh*t, but you’ve got to start somewhere!

Last year, I wrote some of my opinions. I plan to do an update every year.
These are my 39 rules for a delightfully simple life. I try to follow them all. (Mostly.)
I recently completed my first half marathon. My time was shockingly slow and my body hated me for weeks. Glad I did it, though! (I think.)
