Getting Pulled in Different Directions

There are so many projects I want to work on.

  • Writing a book
  • Building an app
  • Ghostwriting for clients

Theoretically, I could do all of these things.

But I know if I choose more than one, I’ll botch them all.

“Never half-ass two things. Whole-ass one thing.”

— Ron Swanson, Parks and Recreation

So how do you choose the “right” project to work on?

Here are some questions to consider:

  • Can you see yourself working on this thing for at least three years? To paraphrase Pat Flynn, this is the standard amount of time you need to work on a project for it to work.
  • If an article was written that talks about your work, would you be proud reading it? Warren Buffett asks a similar question when talking about legacy. I can’t remember it right now.
  • Where does it fall in your Ikigai? See the photo below.
