I remember a time when so much excited me.
Football. Saturday nights. Sex.
It wasn’t even that long ago.
Yet now that I’ve hit my 30s, so much of this seems dumb. And it just doesn’t excite me.
One thing I’ve been trying to work out is whether fading excitement is a natural process of getting old or whether there’s something fundamentally wrong with me.
According to Reddit, the answer is yes: people naturally tend to feel less giddy excitement as they age. Brain chemistry changes how we process rewards, and life experience means we have seen and done more things already.
However, this shift doesn’t mean a loss of joy. High-energy excitement simply evolves into a deeper sense of calm and peace.
So I guess my compass for figuring out what I want to do in life will have to change also.
I can’t blindly follow excitement any more.
There’s none there.
Still figuring out what all this means exactly, but I’ll update you when I get more clarity.
